What Makes Britain Great #3
This is the third in a series of snippets about the quirky things you’ll come across if you dare to visit the UK. Here we talk about our tendency to be overly polite:
- We apologise for everything and we’re embarrassed to complain!
I’m so sorry to bring this up but us Brits apologise for everything. To the point of irritation. We’d certainly offer up an apology if we were to politely complain, but in many instances we just grin and bear the situation rather than make a fuss! It’s probably also true to say that the word “sorry” has slipped into our language so much so that we use it often when its not meant – for example: “Excuse me, sorry but your standing on my foot, would you mind moving?”
